spring has sprung and it's time to start gardening! The big move almost five years ago now from Vancouver was what made my interests in having a homestead, learning the benefits of growing your own food and raising rabbits become a reality. Growing up we made regular visits each summer to the Okanagan to see family, friends and stay with my grandparents on their beautiful farm where they are known for their peaches. I had admiration for my hard working grandma in her peach orchard picking all the fruits, and having her customers come all throughout August to buy all their canning goods straight from their farm. I found it so fun going out in the backyard to her garden and pulling out a crisp garden carrot right from the dirt and rinsing it off in the sprinkler. For a little girl from the city I thought it was so cool to be able to get your own vegetables and go back in the house to then make a meal out of it.
Fast forward to now, my family has a 4 acre farm of our own, growing blueberries, fruit trees, walnuts, and picking flowers as well as raising chickens and our herd of Holland Lop rabbits. After 5 years of living on a farm, planting and experimenting with different things, I've become the person in our family who's in charge of planting the vegetable gardens each year, not only for our enjoyment but also for all my rabbits too! Ever since starting Rosebud Rabbitry my messages through social media get flooded with request each year on what I do for a bunny garden, so I have finally come around to writing something up! Here you'll find how to plant your bunny garden, what to plant and tricks I've learned along the way!
